Description
Pair of Japanese Arita blue and white ewers, c 1680, with loop handles, decorated with three panels to the bulbous lower body containing figures in a landscape against a ground of karakusa, the necks with a stylised formal floral sprays against a lotus scrollwork design, the handles pierced for a cover, height: 9 1/16in. (23 cm.); one ewer with crack to base of handle neatly restored. For a similar ewer see the British Museum Collection, Museum No. Franks.1693.
