Description
Pair of Chinese famille rose fish bowls, Qianlong (1736-95), each with three goldfish swimming amongst waterweeds in the centre, the interior rims with a band of assorted flowers and fruits, the exterior with lotus jardinieres and vessels containing sticks of coral and carved sceptres, amongst further flowers and scrolling tropical foliage; the rims with a sky-blue band containing leaf-shaped floral cartouches reserved in white and small flowerhead roundels

Both with neatly restored hairlines and one with restored star crack
Notes:
In Chinese culture ‘fish’ is homophonous with the word for abundance (‘yu’), and so they symbolise multitude and plenty.
