Description
Chinese blue and white ovoid vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), painted with blooming lotus and peony amongst waterweeds, the wide neck and foot with geometric bands containing small floral medallions, the base with a beribboned solid lozenge motif.

Height without cover: 18cm. (7 1/8in.)

Some chips and nibbles to inner rim of biscuit
Notes:
Lotus (lian-hua) is a flower of great significance within Buddhism. The plant grows out of muddy earth yet remains pure, and so symbolises purity and spiritual enlightenment. Partially opened buds, as seen here, represent a level of enlightenment that may not be visible at first. The lozenge on the base is one of the eight precious things and represents a mirror, which is said to counter evil influences.
