Small German Westerwald salt-glazed tankard, circa 1700, of baluster form, the manganese-glazed body decorated with incised floral and foliate scrolls, the neck ribbed, the plain loop handle pierced for a cover. For more examples see Gaimster, David, ‘German Stoneware 1600-1900’.
