Description
Pair of Japanese Imari octagonal dishes, 18th century, each decorated to the centre with a jardinière decorated with a single lotus bloom, containing foliate peony and other flowers on a fenced terrace, enclosed by a band of dark blue with gilt flowerheads and floral cartouches to the cavetto, the wide rims with four alternating vignettes, containing either a watery landscape scene or floral sprays, divided by curling gilt sections with large chrysanthemum heads against a dark blue ground, the reverse with sprays of chrysanthemum, peony and plum to the rim, with concentric circles and spur marks to the base.
Condition: Stress lines and minute frits to rim of one, both with slight wear to enamels
