Pair of Chinese 'double-peacock' plates, Qianlong(1736-95), decorated in the centre with a peacock and peahen amongst rockwork and peony, within a spear-head border to the cavetto, the wide rim with garlands of flowers enclosed by a geometric patterned border, interspersed by cartouches containing scrolls;, condition: one plate with 2 frits and 1 shallow chip to rim. A service of this design was made for King John VI of Portugal
