Description
Massive Chinese blue and white kraak charger, Wanli (1572-1619), with broad upturned rim and barbed edge, decorated to the centre with a large ogee medallion containing a jardinière of flowers and fruits, including peony, chrysanthemum and peach, with a further archaic vessel in a fenced garden, against cellular and interlocking sauvastika grounds, the wide rim with alternating ogee-topped panels containing fruiting boughs or precious objects including scrolls, artemisia leaf and a fan, interspersed by narrow cartouches with sauvastika pattern and pendant tassels; the reverse with eight further radiating panels containing lingzhi fungus, with ruyi sceptres in between.
