Description
Large Japanese blue and white Arita octagonal vase and cover, Genroku period, circa 1700, the lobed body decorated with two ho-ho birds in a garden scene by a river bank with peony and fruiting branches beneath cloudscrolls, the shoulders with a wide band of peony flowerheads and foliage against a karakusa ground, the neck with stylised panels containing a leaf surrounded by scrollwork, the domed cover similarly decorated with a ho-ho bird in a garden scene with karakusa and surmounted by a knop finial; ; condition: minor fritting to rim. Outside Margin Scheme ie plus tax at 20%
