Description
Japanese Imari charger, 18th century, decorated to the central roundel with a landscape scene containing a small dwelling amongst trees and rockwork, with pine-clad mountains and clouds visible in the distance; enclosed by a band of scrolling foliate lotus in iron-red, the cavetto and wide rim with two shaped cartouches containing a further landscape scene and three small birds in flight amongst bamboo and plum, with an unfurling ribbon decorated with scrolling chrysanthemum behind each cartouche; the dark enamel ground with boughs of flowering camellia and chrysanthemum.
