Description
Pair of Japanese Imari dishes, 18th century, each decorated in underglaze blue, overglaze iron-red and gilt to the centre with a jardinière decorated with a single lotus head and containing large blooms of peony and smaller blossoms with grasses, standing on a fenced verandah; the wide rim with three blue curling sections decorated with gilt foliage and each inset with a diamond-form cartouche containing a plump white rabbit with long ears and whiskers, all against a white reserve ground with beribboned drapes raised to reveal gnarled boughs of cherry blossom amongst clouds.
Condition: One with small chip to underside of rim and crackling to glaze, the other in good condition.
