Description
Japanese Arita Imari charger, 1690-1730, decorated in the centre with a small roundel containing three heads of peony and foliage, set within a pavillion garden scene with a veranda, a bamboo blind (sudare) and boughs of flowering cherry blossom, a taselled curtain drawn back as if to reveal the scene; the rim with four cartouches containing watery landscape scenes with pine, against a dark blue ground with meandering chrysanthemum scroll in iron-red and gilt, the reverse with boughs of prunus, concentric circles in underglaze blue and spur marks to the base.
