Description
Chinese Imari charger, Qianlong (1736-95), decorated to the centre with a fenced garden scene, with a vase containing a bough of flowering peony, seedpods and grasses, a small domed gatehouse and grasses issuing from rockwork, all encircled by a continuous landscape band with pagodas, blossoming trees and pine on rocky islets, against a ground of alternating panels of blue with small florets and curling gilt foliate scroll and white with clouds and mountains, with four large iron-red roundels containing foliage and a single peony head, the reverse with two stems of bamboo and a central beribboned precious object within a double circle.
