Thai bronze standing figure of Avalokiteshvara, 8th century, standing upright with her left arm outstretched and wearing an elaborate headdress.
Condition: Corrosion, missing finger on left hand and loss to top of right hand
Notes:
Avalokitesvara originated in India and represents the mortal Buddha of compassion and mercy. Buddhism and its iconography spread from India via travelling monks throughout Asia during the first century BC and was widely adopted by many diverse culutures.
