A silver Knottekistje or marriage casket.
Dutch, 19th century or earlier.
Measures 8.1 x 7.7 x 5.4cm.
Weighs 117.9 grams.
The engraved little casket is decorated with floral swags and cartouches with pastoral scenes. The button to the front is depressed to open a sprung catch, it is surmounted by a figure of Cupid clutching a bow and arrow. The base of the casket is engraved with the initials ‘G.E’. The casket is struck twice with later Dutch duty marks in the form of a dolphin.
