Description
Rare Chinese helmet-shaped famille verte ewer, Kangxi (1662-1722), the body with three sections separated by green stippled flowerhead bands; the top two sections containing leafy sprays of flowers including peony and lotus; the curving rim with band of lotus petals and a face with headdress underneath the spout; the lower section with large alternately coloured petals against further floral stippled ground, upon a ribbed and spreading foot decorated with lotus petal bands and leafy flowerheads.

Fritting to rim and handles.
Notes:

According to Howard, the headdress depicted underneath the spout resembles a Native American type. The shape of this ewer is based on European metal or faience models.
