Description

Pair of Chinese imari gin bottles, Kangxi (1662-1722), with later European mounts incorporating a porcelain moulded flowerhead, the bodies of square section form with opposing ogee-topped panels containing either chrysanthemum, grasses and seedpods issuing from rockwork or a night-time lakeside scene with a pagoda and pine tree in the foreground, mountains visible across the water under a bright moon and swirling clouds, all within iron-red bands of dense floral scroll, the shoulders with small florets.

Height of taller without cover: 20cm. (8 in.)

Condition: Some fritting to the edges, one with faint hairline to the rim, the other with a piece out of the rim restored with a chip and associated hairline.
