Notes:
For a similar bowl and cover see, du Boulay, Anthony ‘Christie’s Pictorial History of Chinese Ceramics’, p. 261, pl. 9. This bowl closely resembles Japanese export models, for example, in ‘Porcelain for Palaces: The Fashion for Japan in Europe 1650-1750’, no. 246 in Vienna, Hofsilber-und Tafelkammer, 180. 112/040-49., there is a Japanese set of bowls with this pattern which were made to order for an English family. By 1769, a Worcester sale catalogue described porcelain decorated with ‘the fine old Japan fan pattern’ (Porcelain for Palaces, p. 293).
