Description
Japanese small Imari vase and cover, c.1710, of unusual moulded hexagonal bulbous form, decorated in underglaze blue, overglaze enamel and gilt to the main body with grasses and sprays of flowers including peony and dianthus, the tall waisted hexagonal foot with alternating blue and white panels containing either a stylised lotus fan or a lotus bud with scrolling foliage in iron-red with gilt highlights; the tall neck with a band of blue decorated with further gilt, the wide-brimmed lid with further continuous decoration of flowers and grasses with concentric circles in underglaze blue

Condition: Knop missing, glaze wear to lid, piece broken off lid restuck
