Description
Japanese blue and white Arita dish, Genroku c. 1700, painted in the Chinese 'Kraak ' style, the central roundel with a jardiniere containing three sprays of flowering peony on a terrace with an insect in flight above, the wide rim with eight large alternating panels containing either climbing flowers or sacred Buddhist objects against a curling karakusa style ground; divided by narrow panels containing pendant tassels; the reverse with the usual stilt marks.
