Description
Japanese blue and white Arita dish, 17th century, decorated to the central roundel with a tripod jardinière with large lug handles containing three stems of flowering peony with stylised foliage on a fenced terrace, the wide rim with eight alternating Chinese ‘Kraak’ style panels containing either chrysanthemum or peony and grasses issuing from rockwork, divided by narrow panels with scrolling flowerheads and foliage.

Notes: A dish with similar decoration can be found in the collection of the Rijksmuseum (AK-RBK-1972-220).
