A truly fascinating piece with bag of history behind it. Did you know that Eterna actually gave this name following an expedition headed by the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl who believed that during pre-Columbus time people from South America could reach Polynesia with the means and tools they had at the time. Despite his hypothesis being rejected later on, this didn't stop him and his crew from making the journey. In 1950 a documentary based on his expedition won the academy award for best documentary feature. It is rumoured that all the crew at the time wore an Eterna watch, however, this has never been factually confirmed by the watchmaker.
From the research we've conducted, we gathered that this is a first generation Super-KonTiki and based on the serial number it is anticipated that the watch was first produced in 1962. The watch features a 37mm stainless steel case, its original black T25 Swiss dial with arrow markers and date aperture at 3 and a rotating bezel with 10-minute markings.
The watch operates from an automatic movement and despite being water resistant we advise against using it in water due to its age.
Fitted to an unsigned black leather strap with a pin buckle.
