An enamelled gold Skeleton mourning ring.

English, quarter of the 18th century.

Ring size S UK / 9 US.

The interior of the band is engraved ‘S(i)r Tho(mas) Willys Bar(onet) obit 30 Mar(ch) 1724 set 20’ with the maker's mark ‘FM’.

The exterior of the band is decorated with champlevé black enamel depicting memento mori symbolism in the form of a skeleton, a shovel crossed with a pick, bones and an hour glass. The ring has suffered historic wear and tear and has been re-enamelled.
