Description
A silver gilt pendant with a figure of Saint Sebastian.
German, 15th century.
Measures 5cm high.
The scantly clothed Saint is modelled with a simple loin cloth around his waist and tied to a tree, his contorted limbs bound to its sinuous branches. The pendant bears traces of gilding and considerable wear, the Saints right hand is also absent. The pendant would have been been worn on a rosary and has endured generations of contemplative handling.
