Description
Chinese blue and white Kraak dish, Wanli (1573-1619), the centre with an octagonal cartouche in reserve decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a large tripod jardiniere containing peony and fruiting boughs, against alternating cell and interlocking diaper grounds, the cavetto and wide rim with eight alternating gently lobed panels containing fruiting boughs or beribboned precious objects including artemisia leaves, calabash bottles and scrolls, interspersed by narrow panels with pendant tassels and alternating diaper grounds, the reverse rim divided into ten large panels with narrow sections between.
