POA
Description
Chinese famille verte gin flask, Kangxi (1662-1722), with later European ormolu mount, the square section body divided into four panels variously containing branches of flowering peony with butterflies, precious and scholar’s objects surrounding a jardieniere of flowers on a stand, birds flying above flowering prunus issuing from rockwork, and a riverscape scene of a fisherman in a boat with a distant rider and further figure on the bank, all within a leiwen patter border, height without cover: 9¼ in. (23.5 cm.); condition: some fritting to sides. Solitary figures such as fishermen represent a tradition of depicting reclusive scholars who leave the trappings of society for a simpler life of solitude.
