Description
Near pair of Chinese blue and white ginger jars and covers, Kangxi (1662-1722), painted with cherry blossoms on a brilliant underglaze blue cracked ice ground, the covers with a band of ruyi-heads
Dimensions:
Height: 24.3cm. (9 5/6in.) and 24.5cm. (9 6/8in.)
Condition:
One jar with small star-crack to inside, hairline to cover, minor fritting and glaze faults.
Notes:
Cherry blossom paired with the motif of cracking ice symbolises the thawing of winter and the coming of warmer days. Jars with this design were consequently frequently given as New Year's gifts.
