Description
Japanese Imari plate with foliate rim, early 18th century, with gently scalloped rim, decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red enamel to the central roundel with an archaic-form tripod jardinière containing foliate peony and grasses upon a wooden verandah between two small dogs at play, the cavetto with three scrolling lotus cartouches interspersed by chrysanthemum heads against a blue ground, the rim with shaped cartouches containing landscape scenes against a ground with boughs of pine and blossoming cherry, the reverse with three branches of blossoming plum to the rim, concentric blue circles and usual spur marks to the base.
