Description
Japanese Imari barber's bowl, 18th century, painted in iron red, black and green overglaze enamels and underglaze blue, decorated in the centre with an abstract design of a three-pointed star with three fans styled as lotus leaves, with flowering lotus and swirling clouds, the cavetto with chrysanthemum, peony and cherry blossom, the wide rim with a continuous bough of cherry, the iron-red blossoms set against branches and small leaves in underglaze blue, the reverse with three further floral boughs.

Small chip to lip of bowl, pierced for hanging.
