Description
Japanese Imari baluster vase and cover, 18th century, decorated in blue, red and green overglaze enamels with gilt highlights, the body with panels containing hoho birds and wisteria, and smaller panels containing stylised lotus and fleur-de-lis type leaves, all against a blue ground with large scrolling chrysanthemum heads, the shoulders with further shaped cartouches containing hoho birds and flowers, the neck with half-roundels containing peony and chrysanthemum below a geometric band in iron red; the lid similarly decorated and surmounted by a finial in the form of a karashishi
