Description
Chinese blue and white bowl, Kangxi (1662-1722), rising from a short foot to a flaring scalloped rim, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue to the exterior with an aquatic scene of fish swimming amongst strands of seaweed, water plants, delicate fronds and flowers, the scene continued on a band to the interior rim, the interior with a central roundel containing a large crab amongst aquatic plants, the base with a central mark within double blue circle.
Diameter: 20.5cm. (8 1/16in.); height: 10.2cm. (4in.)
Condition: Small chip with small associated hair-line' and fritting
Notes:
Fish symbolise wealth in China, as the character yu (魚, fish) is homophonous with yu (裕, abundance).
