Description

Robustly potted, supported on a flat circular base, the sides sweeping to a wide rounded shoulder, the short neck with flared rim, decorated in rich shades of underglaze blue, the body painted with a continuous scene of scholars and attendants engaged in leisurely pursuits such as playing weiqi and the qin, all in a terraced garden, one scholar holds a peacock feather fan, nearby tables bear scholar’s implements including calligraphy brushes, smoke rises from a censer, decorative landscape screens in the background between rockwork and bamboo, the shoulder with a wide band enclosing roundels of peony reserved against a diaper ground, bordered by ruyi, the short neck with beribboned auspicious emblems, the foot with a band of upright lappets, the base unglazed.
