Description
An extremely fine High Carat Yellow Gold (tested) Georgian Agate Butterfly Brooch. An exceptional example of delicate Georgian Cannetille work (fine Gold wire work) at its best and formed in the shape of a Butterfly. The outstretched wings are raised claw-set with four polished panels of "moss like" Agate, with one further elongated panel of polished Agate centrally set and forming the body of the Butterfly. The reverse of this beautiful Brooch is fitted with a "Bow" shaped hinged pin, indicative (during the Georgian period) of being worn as a gathered shawl pin.
