Description
An exceptional Yellow Gold (unmarked), Emerald and Diamond Cluster Ring. Colombian Emerald, 2.60 carats approximately, minor oil, with ten Old European Cut Diamonds, approximately 5.00 carats (in total).
Circa 1890.
Diamonds approximately 0.50 carats each, on average (totalling approximately 5.00 carats), colour F - G, Clarity grades, SI1 - SI2, overall appearing well-matched, bright and attractive.
Emerald measuring 10.0 x 7.4 x 4.5 mm approximately, calculated weight approximately 2.60 carats. Gross weight of ring 12.54 grams. Emerald is very pretty and gemmy stone, with minor inclusions visible under magnification, with old oil residue visible under strong magnification. In general it's an extremely attractive stone, appearing clean and attractive, with great light play & colour. There's a possibility that it was later added to the mount.
From a private collection. This ring may well have once been convertible, with the cluster coming out via a screw fitting, but that seems to have been removed and the ring fixed in place.
Accompanied by a two Gemmological Reports. including one from from GCS (no: 5783-2631, confirming the Emerald as Colombian with indications of minor oil enhancement (ref 5783-2634), and WGI : 19624147134.
