A Chinese Canton enamel tea bowl and saucer, Qianlong (1736-95), each painted with a scene of an Asiatic pheasant perched upon a bough of flowering prunus, with peony and other flowers issuing from rockwork below, the borders painted with trailing blue flowers and highlights in gilt; the base with applied label 'Chien Lung Period 1736-1795 AD', and catalogue number 1
Diameter of saucer: 11.25cm. (4 7/16in.); diameter of cup: 7cm. (2 3/4in.)
Provenance:
John Sparks Ltd. Purchased by the vendors in the 1970s. This piece was loaned by the vendors to be included in an exhibition of Chinese Painted Enamel at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in 1978, curated by Michael Gillingham.
