Description
Hispanic reliquary pendant of a particularly neat and wearable size, circa 1700. Trust in the apotropaic powers of saints was strong and devotional jewels like this were worn to protect the wearer. This reliquary pendant is silver and gold, set with rose-cut diamonds. It contains a colourful enamel miniature of Madonna as Queen of Heaven, holding the Christ child. The pendant measures 1 and 2/3 inches by one inch and is immaculate.
