This Omega watch has been a fascinating challenge and a joy to research. This Omega from 1944 (dated by the serial number). is a rare find and quite possibly a unique one off watch!
This Omega 2179 watch dating to 1944 is referred to even by Omega as a US army watch although weather this one was issued to the Military is another thing as most that were then have a 2 or 5 after the model number which means this one could be a civilian issue version but either way the reference was produced for the US Military in the 1940's.
A 35mm stainless steel case with steel smooth bezel and steel crown, this watch operates from the iconic 30 T2 SC caliber collection and would have originally been waterproof to 30 meters although now not considered waterproof at all. Manual Wind.
What then makes this one slightly more unusual and possibly unique is the dial that has naturally turned an orange colour, almost a burnt colour. The bold black hour markers then have almost identical circles of a lighter shade around them. Is this where a cleaning process has occurred or is it natural? We are not certain but what we are certain of is that it is a really beautiful watch.
Fitted to a generic brown strap the watch has been paired with a vintage Omega box.
Condition - some light marks and scratches but nothing significant and incredible for a watch of this age.
