This Omega 2497-4 Jumbo is an exciting and special find. We are pleased to offer you this incredible early Omega from 1947 with such a special story and in such exceptional condition.
This Omega has a reference number 2497-4 which alone is a rare reference but when you consider this manual wind watch operates from the iconic 265 Caliber then even more so.
Jumbo size at around 36mm, it's a big watch for the year. Gold plated with barely a mark on it and fitted to a generic brown leather strap with gold plated buckle.
The dial is where this watch gets interesting, a champagne colour that has a wonderful patina and age to it. Look up close and zoom in to see the dial has slightly faded in places, maybe humidity, age or the materials used in making the dial have affected this.
You will notice the dial is stamped with the red star, this relates back to the Teddington aware that Omega won in 1937 and 1938 effectively awarding Omega with the award for being the most accurate watch. These watches were made in such small numbers in the early 40's for the Brazilian market and there are very few available for sale today.
We believe the dial to be original however it is possible that it has been refinished to a high standard at some point. The serial number is how we date this watch. Crown does not appear to be original.
Condition - Quite simply 9/10
Working Order - Having passed through our workshop the watch runs at at around +10 seconds per day which is exceptional for a watch of this age.
Our View - What an incredible opportunity to own a beautiful piece of history but more than that just a really stunningly beautiful watch.
