Description
The emerald cut diamond's history begins with its adaptation from the table cut, which was originally developed for cutting emerald gemstones in the 1500s. This cut was chosen for emeralds to reduce pressure and prevent chipping during the faceting process, due to their lower hardness and tendency for inclusions. Diamond cutters soon recognised the practicality of this shape and applied it to diamonds, though the term "emerald cut" didn't become widespread until the 1920s, during the Art Deco period.
