Description
A beautiful antique Victorian Pinchbeck Gold large Photo Swivel Locket Mourning Hair Brooch
This beautiful Victorian large Mourning Swivel Brooch is made from Pinchbeck - Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance. It was invented in the early 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck.
The locket features an ornately engraved entwined frame with a central swivel locket containing a photo of the deceased loved one on one side and a tightly woven hair panel on the other side. Both panels are behind bevelled glass fronts. The middle section can be swivelled to your choice. The Brooch has a secure pin and a 'C' style Clasp. It also has a top loop for a Safety Chain to be added or could alternatively be worn as a Pendant on a Chain if desired.
The Brooch measures 6.0cm x 5.0cm and weighs 41.4g. Both Brooch and Glass are in excellent antique condition as shown.
