Description
An antique ruby and diamond crescent brooch, with an outer row of oval and cushion faceted rubies, graduating from the centre, set in gold, in grains and cut down settings on the outer edge and a gold pierced gallery below, with an inner row of old-cut diamonds, in a silver-upon-gold, grain set channel, with a flat edge on the inside, circa 1900, with a pin and later catch fitting, mounted in 14ct gold and silver. With a scratched invoice mark 4/54 9/041. In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon represented a new relationship. Hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony.
