ANCIENT EGYPTIAN BRONZE ISIS AND HORUS
ANCIENT EGYPTIAN BRONZE ISIS AND HORUS
£4,500.00
Description
This piece is a beautiful Bronze-cast depiction of the goddess Isis-Hathor, from the Late Egyptian Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period (Ca. 664-30 BC). Situated in her lap is the infant Horus (sometimes referred to as Harpokrates). It depicts Isis-Hathor with one hand held to her bare breast ready to suckle the infant Horus. She wears an ankle-length gown and her typical headdress. Horus is shown nude with arms draped to his sides and a minimalist visage flanked by his characteristic braided side-lock of youth. As a cult figure from this time period, Isis is often shown as a mother goddess, as we see here. Covered in lustrous layers of green and russet patina, this is a touching portrayal, probably intended for a niche in a temple or a grave.
