Aluminium bracelet
£1,950.00
Description
A rare aluminium bracelet, circa 1860 stamped on the clasp DV for Henri-Etienne Deville. Aluminium enjoyed great celebrity when a process for refining it was discovered in 1825 and initially it was more expensive than gold. Jewellers experimented with the new metal and at the Paris Exhibitions pieces made from aluminium caused a sensation. This bracelet is comprised of gilt orbs surmounted by textured aluminium elements with a central pendant drop. It is 7 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide and in immaculate condition. For similar Victorian aluminium jewellery, see the V & A Museum collection.
