The 1930’s were a period of glamour when jewellers became increasingly imaginative and innovative reflecting the trends of society. This exquisite and rare Cartier clip is an expression of the desire for the exotic while drawing upon the increased interest in the origins of the United States and the ‘Wild West’ which had been an immensely popular genre during the early years of cinema.

Along with the ‘Sioux’ chief shown here, Cartier produced a matching ‘Squaw’ design.

An almost identical version of this clip is in the Cartier permanent collection and is illustrated on p.108 in the catalogue ‘Cartier and America’, an exhibition held at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in 2009.

Condition: General use, minor wear and tear, minor blemishes on enamel, otherwise good and pleasant condition overall.
